Background

Tun Yew Koh was born on 27th August 1888 at Salak Utara, nearby Sungai Siput, Perak. His father, Leong Yew Teen originates from Canton, China and came to Singapore at the aged of 17th and then to Salak Utara, Perak to look for a work. His father is the person responsible in developing Salak Utara, Perak. His mother, Wan Man Cheong was a worker in his father’s shop at Penang.
