The state of Malacca has experienced progress and success process since achieved independence on 31st of August 1957. This progress and success was achieved with the contribution of the supreme commander of this state, namely Yang di-Pertua Negeri Melaka, who comply contribute especially involving in the development of political stability, economic development and social development.

Since 50 years national has achieved independence, as many as six Yang di-Pertua Negeri Melaka has governed and lead this state to further success until this day. The six Yang di-Pertua Negeri Melaka were:

1)    Tun Leong Yew Koh (31st August 1957 – 1959)

2)    Tun Haji Abdul Malek bin Yusof (31st August 1959 - 1971)

3)    Tun Haji Abdul Aziz bin Abdul Majid (1971-1975)

4)    Tun Syed Zahiruddin bin Syed Hassan (19th May 1975-1984)

5)    Tun Datuk Seri Utama Syed Ahmad al-Haj bin Syed Mahmud Shahabudin

(4th December 1984 – 31st May 2004)

6)    Tun Datuk Seri Utama Mohd Khalil bin Yaakob (4th June 2004 – incumbent )
