Seri Melaka is an official residency and office of Dutch's Gabenor in Malacca during 17th century. It was located on top of Bukit St. Paul, which is adjacent with the rubble effect of St. Paul church, was developed during Dutch's era. After State Of Malacca governed by British Government, this building's objective remained till national achieved independence.
However, on September 1996, Seri Melaka is no longer an official residency because a new palace for Yang di-Pertua Negeri was built, which was located at Bukit Beruang and Yang di-Pertua Negeri's new office was built at Ayer Keroh.
Compatible with the strategic location, this location of the building is believed to be the original site of Malacca's Malay King Palace . Based on Munsyi Abdullah's myth, this building also was known as the Home of King.
After Malaya achieved independence on 31st of August 1957, this building was renamed to Seri Melaka and Gavernor's title was changed to Yang di-Pertua Negeri Melaka.
